Chris Sweeney is an author and magazine writer living in Somerville, Massachusetts. His first book, The Feather Detective: Mystery, Mayhem, and the Magnificent Life of Roxie Laybourne, will be published in July 2025 by Simon & Schuster’s Avid Reader Press. Over the years, he has reported on everything from the cutthroat world of competitive bagpiping to the mysterious death of a Golden Eagle. Sweeney has contributed to Audubon, The Guardian, Men’s Journal, Popular Mechanics, Wired, Popular Science, and Playboy, among others, and he held staff positions at Boston Magazine and Village Voice’s newspaper in South Florida. He has won numerous journalism awards, including once being named Magazine Writer of the Year by the City and Regional Magazine Association. In addition to journalism, Sweeney has worked extensively in global-public-health communications, holding positions at Partners In Health, the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and, most recently, the AMR Action Fund.
